Mr. Charles 'Chuck' Zollinger – Superintendent of Schools

Charles Zollinger

            The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 1, at the Santa Clara Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for Charles W. Zollinger of Eugene, who died Feb. 24 of complications from pneumonia. He was 90. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

            He was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Hansen, Idaho, to John and Carrie Pearce Zollinger. He married Mary Lambert on May 27, 1944, in San Fernando, Calif. She died in 1965. He married Josephine Culbertson on Dec. 27, 1968.

            He received a bachelor’s degree from Southern Idaho College of Education, and a master’s degree in educational administration from Colorado State College. He served with the Marine Corps in World War II at Guadalcanal, and received the Purple Heart and the Navy & Marine Cross for valor.

            He was a high school principal and superintendent. He was a teacher and dean of boys at North Eugene High School, and served as principal at Cal Young Middle School and Sheldon High School, and was the first principal at Churchill High School.

            Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Lynne, Sandi, Jennifer and Christine; two sons, Charles Jr., and William; two brothers, Bud Zollinger of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Roland Zollinger of Hagerman Valley, Idaho, and 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Sarah, died previously.
