            Paul Holmes

            Services for Paul L. Holmes, 86, of Caldwell, who died Thursday, Dec. 1, 1988, at an Evansville, Ind. hospital of natural causes, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec., 6, 1988, in the Dakan Funeral Chapel of Caldwell. Pastor Paul Dobb of the Midway Bible Missionary Church will officiate with burial following in the Greenleaf Cemetery, Greenleaf.

            Mr. Holmes was born May 14, 1902, in Stafford, Kan., to R.C. and Carrie Sutton Holmes. He was raised and educated in Stafford.

            He married Lois Acheson on Oct. 12, 1926, in Canyon City, Colo. He attended school at Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky. In 1937 they came to Caldwell. He returned to school later finishing his degree in education, graduating from the College of Idaho. He taught in several schools throughout the Treasure Valley until his retirement in the early 1970s.

            More than 50 years of his life were spent teaching school. In May of 1968, Mr. Holmes received an award for “Outstanding and Dedicated Service in Public Education” from the Homedale School District. After his retirement he kept busy helping his family with their farming.

            His wife Lois died Aug. 27, 1985, after 60 years of marriage.

            He later married Ruby Wright in November of 1986 in Caldwell. Mr. Holmes attended the Midway Bible Missionary Church of Caldwell.

            Survivors include his wife Ruby of Caldwell; one son and daughter-in-law, Elwin and Ramona Holmes of Caldwell; two brothers, Ralph Holmes of Denver, Colo., and Sam Holmes of Boise; one sister, Mary Dixon of Gravette, Ark.; three grandchildren, Cindy and her husband Dennis Baldwin of Parma, Susan Holmes of Caldwell and David and his wife Christi Holmes of Caldwell; and three great-grandchildren, Brian and Benton Baldwin and Amanda Holmes.

            He was preceded in death by his first wife Lois, three brothers and three sisters.

            Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dakan Chapel of Caldwell.
