Mrs. Lena Balius, Retired Teacher, Dies July 9

            Mrs. Lena B. Balius, 71, Meridian, died Thursday morning in a Boise hospital after a brief illness.

            Services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Robison chapel of the Chimes, with the Rev. Irwin Alger, Homedale, officiating. Interment followed at Dry Creek.

            Mrs. Balius had just returned from a trip to Alaska when she became ill. Born in Union County, Iowa, May 10, 1893, she was a retired school-teacher. The last school she had taught before her retirement was in Homedale. She was a member of the Homedale Friends Community church and the Homedale Rebekah lodge.

            Surviving are two sons, Merrill Balius of Meridian and Albert Balius of Lakewood, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Vanda Eymann of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Radine Shields of Boise; three sisters, Mrs. Mayme Webb of Corydon, Iowa, and Mrs. Jessie Wolfe and Mrs. Edna Schwiersch, both of Creston, Iowa; two brothers, John Griep, also of Creston, and Tom Griep of Des Moines, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
