            George William Roland

            George William Roland, 87, of Homedale passed away October 8, 2007 at the VA Hospital in Boise.

            He was born June 15, 1920 in Buffalo Springs, Texas to William M. Roland and Zona May Griffin. At the age of 17, he enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in the Silver Lake, Oregon area. He returned to Texas and during World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he obtained the rank of Sgt. George served in France and Germany. He received a Purple Heart for being wounded in action, as well as the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. After being honorably discharged from the Army, George once again returned to Texas. In the early 1950s, he moved his family to the Homedale area where he farmed until he retired.

            On June 2, 1972, George married Maxine Olivia McKibben. After their retirement, they enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling. They remained married until she passed away in 2006.

            George is survived by both his and Maxine’s children: Jack and Diane Roland of Rio Rancho, NM; Rich and Doris Roland of Homedale; Roy Roland of Vancouver, WA; Gary and Sheri Roland of Great Falls, MT; Linn and Marty Boyd of Bigwater, UT; Gerald Boyd of Spokane, WA; Marilee and Mike Donovan of Brush Prairie, WA; Bruce and Susan McKibben of Nampa; and Zelda and Terry Stewart of Winters, TX. He is also survived by his sister Dixie Richardson of Athens, TX; Maxine’s sister, Marvis Nielsen of Caldwell; stepson Michael Allen of Austin, TX; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

            He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine; his parents; and his sons Ronald Roland and Larry Brown.

            A memorial service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Saturday, November 10th, 10 a.m. at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Homedale. A dinner will follow at the Homedale Senior Citizens Center.
