            John 'Ted' Carson

            Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, in the Homedale Church of Latter-day Saints for John Roosevelt 'Ted' Carson, 76, former Homedale resident, with Bishop E. Ray Simpson of the first Ward officiating. Interment followed in Homedale/Marsing cemetery. Mr. Carson died Tuesday, Aug. 22, at his home in Nampa.

            He was born April 1, 1920, at Homedale to Owen Thomas and Leah Rowley Carson, the seventh of eleven children. He attended school in Homedale.

            Ted spent his early years herding sheep. He worked on the Oliver Ranch in Jordan Valley from the time he was a teenager until he bought his own farm southwest of Homedale in 1946. He married Delna Levanger on July 27, 1943, at the LDS Temple in Logan, Utah. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1993.

            He served in the U.S. Army from November, 1944, until July, 1946, and had farmed the same land for over 48 years. He took much of the land from sagebrush by hand. For the last 28 years he farmed with his son, Steve, farming over 1,000 acres together. He operated a Holstein dairy herd until 1972 when his health failed. In February, 1995, he sold his farm and equipment and retired.

            He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions including High Priest and six years in the Homedale Ward Bishopric.

            His survivors include his wife, Delna of Nampa; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Carson of Nampa; five daughters and sons-in-law, DyAnne and Jerry Bermensolo of Boise, Brenda and Norman Hogg of Caldwell, Shauna and Patrick McCurdy of Weiser, Pamela and Matthew Bright of Rapid City, SD, Susan and Blake Isaacson of Tucson, AZ; two brothers and their wives, Grant and Bettie Carson of Huntington, OR, Jim and Betty Carson of El Cerrito, CA; two brothers, Thomas 'Buster' Carson of Ontario, OR and Kit Carson, and a sister, Gypsy Jackson, both of Homedale; 28 grandchildren, Greg Carson of Homedale, David and wife, Shelley, Carson, Kimber Nichols of Boise, Robbe, Shelbey, Shayla, Nathanael, Jefferson, and Stephen Hogg of Caldwell, Bryan and Emily Carson of Nampa, Jake, and Christen McCurdy of Weiser, Richard and Todd Bermensolo of Moscow, Stephanie and husband, Roger Bonte of Santa Clara, CA, Shauna Hogg of LaGrande, Or., Kiley Nichols of Fort Collins, CO, Jason Nichols of Phoenix, AZ, Tyler, Haylee, Whitney and Atalie Isaacson of Tucson, AZ., Sam, Ben and Elisa Bright of Rapid City, SD; three great-grandchildren, Parker Carson of Boise, Zachary and Brock Bronte of Santa Clara, CA; numerous nieces and nephews.

            He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Claire Carson, four sisters, Vera Carson, Louella Paugh, Geraldine Tidwell and Afton Young, and a daughter-in-law, Charlene.

            The family suggests memorials to American Heart Association, Boise.
